The high-end gaming headphone market is undeniably booming right now, and Sony Playstation division's acquisition of Audeze just serves to validate the trend. With more premium companies joining this category, it's no surprise that Beyerdynamic, best renowned for its superb professional monitoring headphones, is fortifying its position with the recent release of its first wireless gaming headphones, the MMX 200 wireless.
The MMX 200 has 40 mm drivers in a closed-back design,
however it lacks the spatial audio capacity of the more expensive MMX 300.
There is no ANC, however the Augmented Mode mixes ambient sounds with audio
content to improve awareness. In terms of connectivity, a USB-C Bluetooth
dongle enables the low-latency mode for gaming, however conventional Bluetooth
5.3 and hybrid modes, as well as a USB-C wired audio option, are also
available.
The detachable, flexible 'META VOICE' boom mic features a
9.9 mm capsule for increased clarity and noise suppression. When the boom mic
is removed, calls can still be made using the headphone's in-built microphones.
The onboard controls include a volume control dial, transparency to ambient
sounds, and a mute feature. The META LINK button switches between Bluetooth
Low-Latency and normal modes.
Beyerdynamic's circular over-ear designs, such as the DT770
and DT990, are already known for their long-term comfort, and the MMX 200 has
memory foam-filled fake leather earcups and headband, as well as an adjustable
aluminium bracket for an optimal fit.
In this price category, Sony INZONE H9, Logitech G PRO X2,
and Razer BlackShark V2 Pro compete, and the MMX 200 will have to compensate
for its relatively modest feature list with greater audio quality.
