Nearly three years after releasing the original Galaxy
SmartTag, Samsung has released a new item tracker. Unsurprisingly, Samsung's
previous moniker is retained for the second-generation smartphone. As a result,
Samsung offers the accessory as the Galaxy SmartTag2, which is similar to the
Galaxy Z Fold5, Galaxy Z Flip5, and Galaxy Watch6 series.
According to a press release, the Galaxy SmartTag 2 combines
Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, similar to the Apple AirTag. In
comparison, the original Galaxy SmartTag had Bluetooth 5.0 connection; Samsung
paid an additional US$10 for the Galaxy SmartTag+, which included UWB
capability. As a result, there is no need for a special 'Plus' model this time.
The Galaxy SmartTag 2 retains its predecessor's 120-metre
Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0 (BLE 5.0) coverage. Samsung has also revamped the
SmartTag, resembling a security tag as a consequence. Nonetheless, the new
design includes a bigger loop, which should make attachment to things easier.
However, it appears that Samsung has removed the physical button seen on the
original Galaxy SmartTag.
Furthermore, Samsung claims that the Galaxy SmartTag 2 may
last up to 700 days before its battery has to be replaced, which is more than
2.3 times longer than its predecessor. The new object tracker is also IP67
certified; for additional information, please visit Samsung's press release.
The Galaxy SmartTag 2 will be available in black and white finishes beginning
October 10 for US$29.99. However, Samsung has not yet confirmed the device's
availability in additional regions.
